Roundup: MOT in Intermediate, Laurel in Juniors both pick up wins

MOT opened the Intermediate baseball East Regional with a pair of wins this weeked.

The District I champions beat Connecticut, 5-2, on Saturday and then Maryland, 5-4, on Sunday in the tournamaent being played at Dover Little League.

The Middletown-area squad on Monday at 10 a.m, when it takes on New Hampshire in the winners’ bracket.

New Hampshire advanced with a 6-2 victory over Delaware state champion Brandywine on Saturday.

The tournament in Little League’s 50/70 division is slated to continue through Wednesday.

Junior League

Laurel 14, Connecticut 2: The Delaware state champions improved to 2-0 in the East Regional with the victory on Sunday in DuBois, Pa.

Laurel doesn’t play again until Tuesday when it faces Pennsylvania (2-0) at 2 p.m.in the winners’ bracker of the double-elimination tourney.
The Sussex County squad started out with a 10-0 win over Maryland on Saturday.
The East champion gets a berth in the World Series in Taylor, Mich.

Softball

Senior League

MOT splits two: State champion MOT went 1-1 on Sunday in the East Regional in Worcester, Mass. on Sunday.

The Middletown-area squad takes a 2-1 record into Monday’s 2 p.m. quarterfinal matchup with Rhode Island (1-2). MOT finished second in the Mid-Atlantic pool while Rhode ISland was No. 3 in New England.

On Sunday, the Delaware State champions beat Maryland, 6-2, but dropped at 15-5 decision to New Jersey.

MOT opened the tourney with a 6-1 victory over Stroudsburg, Pa. on Saturday.
The East champion earns a berth in the Senior League World Series being played in Lower Sussex.

Lower Sussex faces Upper Sussex for the District III title in a best-of-three series that begins tonight.

The series starts with a 6 p.m. game today at Lower Sussex. A second game will follow immediately afterward with a third contest played on Tuesday if necessary.

The District III champion gets a spot in the World Series as the champion of the host district.

Major League

New York 10, MOT 0: The Middletown-area squad dropped its opener in the Mid-Atlantic Regional on Sunday in Bristol, Conn.

Delaware state champion MOT doesn’t play again until Tuesday at 1 p.m. when it faces either Maryland or Washington, D.C. in the double-elimination tourney for 11-12 year-olds.

The Mid-Atlantic champion earns a berth in the World Series in Greenville, N.C.

Junior League

New York 6, Lower Sussex 1: The Delaware state champions fell to 2-3 with the loss in the East Regional on Sunday in Orange, Conn.

Lower Sussex had won two games in a row, including a 13-1 victcory over Rhode Island on Saturday in Little League’s age division for 13-14 year olds.

The Sussex County squad wraps up pool play in the nine-team bracket with a 9 a.m. matchup against New Jersey (3-1), on Monday.

The top four squads advance to Tuesday’s semifinals with the East champion earning a trip to the Junior League World Series in Kirkland, Wash.
