Roof: How about some common sense in gun laws?

Posted

George Roof is a resident of Magnolia.

Though Democrats love to embrace terms such as “democracy” and the “Constitution,” don’t let their beguiling ways stand in the way of truth. America has never been a “democracy,” and the word is never mentioned in any of our founding documents. For the last 20 years, Democrats have attempted to reinterpret the Constitution and revise historical meanings into contemporary language. President Joe Biden even asserted that none of the “rights” included in the first 10 amendments to the Constitution are absolute. Though swallowed by his liberal colleagues, there remains a large group of us who see through the charade and just how the implications are for a power grab, if you dare not tow their party line.

If you think this is another “conspiracy theory” and that the Democratic Party isn’t intent on destroying the Second Amendment, I invite you to read the Daily State News and find the little innocuous article, “Congresswoman McBride, Gabby Giffords highligh importance of gun safety laws at Wilmington roundtable.”

Anyone who is anybody intent on gun grabbing was part and parcel to this little gathering. They even imported Gabby Giffords to accent the meeting. Instigated by the Delaware Coalition Against Gun Violence (a more progressive name for Sarah Brady’s organization, Handgun Control), the group heralded the numerous gun safety laws since the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, without ever mentioning that these laws have been carbon copies from Democratic havens like California and Maryland. These “over a dozen gun safety advocates” had absolutely nothing to do with gun “safety” but rather with gun confiscation and elimination.

Our lone U.S. representative, Democrat Sarah McBride, proclaimed to be one of the few voices of reason in Washington. Were that not so funny on so many fronts, she extols how the president’s elimination of the duplicitous mishmash of laws and his punishment of gun owners with excessive restrictions and taxes are such bad things.

Do not be deceived by this group. Its members brag about making it unlawful to own “assault weapons,” though they never actually defined what an assault weapon is, other than the cosmetics. They have included many firearms by name and brand, even though they were never military weapons to begin with. They seem extremely proud of the fact that laws now prevent 18-year-olds the right to buy pistols and (this year) actually make it unlawful for anyone under age 21 to hunt in Delaware without direct supervision from someone over that age.

Common sense is no longer common, and if you need an example, remember that, in America, age 18 is considered the “age of majority.” You can vote, and you can join the military and be in control of nuclear weaponry, but in Delaware, you’ll need someone 21 or older in “direct control” of you. Yet, if you are in the military, you’re exempt. Somehow, I’m unable to follow that logic.

Just for the sake of, hopefully, reaching those capable of logical thinking, do you realize just how many laws about guns have been enacted across this nation? How can guns be the problem, when murder, assault, burglary, rape and carjacking are felonies? Why is it that overpaid and politically motivated prosecutors overlook and often toss out gun charges before going to court? With one of the highest recidivism rates in the nation and armed crimes on the upswing, why would those charges ever be dropped? And then, there’s the question that the politically correct and the woke refuse to answer: Why are juveniles under age 18 (there’s that age thing again) protected from having their names published and their criminal records hidden from the public? If they’re truly juvenile, why aren’t parents who’re responsible for their lawless behavior not listed? Aren’t all these things against the law already?

The bottom line is that politicians and groups playing these games aren’t targeting the miscreants who blatantly ignore the law but, instead, target law-abiding citizens. Democrats want people control, and gun control is a simple step to begin with. As George Orwell describes in “1984,” if you enact enough laws that will apply to an honest man, eventually you’ll make him a criminal that you can take out of society.
