Robinson: Our energy future is a matter of ‘life or death’

Posted

I am sad and disappointed that a citizen of such stature doesn’t see the big picture — that gasoline-fueled vehicles must be phased out as rapidly as possible in order to keep Earth from warming more than the 1.5-degree Celsius limit set by the IPCC and supported by nearly all scientists. We have already seen worldwide disastrous consequences of the carbon-induced heat, which will remain in our atmosphere for at least a century; so why has (Jane) Brady condoned adding even more? (“EV mandates not justified by technology or reality”).

I know that fossil fuel industries have opposed clean offshore wind and clean solar energy production by funding lobbying groups such as the Heritage Foundation and Caesar Rodney Institute, whose function is to preserve corporate profits; I don’t think they care about the perceived inconvenience of driving an EV.

My sincere hope is that all citizens will research and learn; from reputable sources, about the kind of future our planet — and all who live on it —will face if we don’t move swiftly to electric power generated by clean renewables.

It truly is a matter of life or death. We cannot survive if we allow fossil-fuel industries to determine our energy future.
