REHOBETH — Rehoboth Presbyterian Church hosts an evening of special music followed by caroling featuring the Holy Pickers Chapel — a powerful group of current and former seafood workers from Crisfield.

The program starts 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6 inside the oldest continuously active Presbyterian church in the U.S. The evening will close with traditional Christmas caroling, followed by light refreshments.

Through gospel music, the Holy Pickers Chapel honors the legacy of African American crab pickers and the women whose strength, resilience, and hard work helped shape Maryland’s seafood industry.

Their origin is through the hymns and songs the pickers sang each morning in the crab houses which expanded to include blessings to watermen and all other seafood workers. Members performed last year at Manokin Presbyterian Church during the Somerset County’s Holiday Historic House Tour, at the Maryland Folk Fest in Salisbury, and in 2024 were recognized as a Heritage Award honoree by the Crisfield Heritage Foundation.

Old Rehoboth Church is located at 5757 Coventry Parish Road, Westover, and everyone is welcome to attend. For more information call 443-783-3619.
