Rehoboth Beach townhouse fire accidentally caused

REHOBOTH BEACH - A fire that heavily damaged a townhouse Wednesday was accidentally caused, authorities said.

According to State Fire Marshal Office spokesman John Galaska, the incident reported shortly before 8 p.m., occurred in the 21000 block of Catalina Circle in the Sawgrass community.

The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company arrived on the scene and found smoke and flames coming from the structure. The townhome was not occupied at the time of the fire. Mutual aid fire companies assisted at the scene.

Investigators determined that the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction. Damage was estimated at $650,000, Mr. Galaska said.

There were no reported injuries.
