Registration open for 37th annual Amish Country Bike Tour

DOVER — The 38th annual Amish Country Bike Tour is scheduled to return Sept. 7 starting and finishing at Legislative Mall.

Online registration is open.

The tour offers routes spanning 16, 25, 50, 62 and 100 miles, appealing to cyclists of all ages and skill levels. Specific start times will be assigned for each distance.

Packet pick up and onsite registration will be held from 4-7:30 p.m. Sept. 6. Day of registration and additional packet pickup will resume on Sept. 7 before 6 a.m.

The tour is a non-competitive ride starting at 7 a.m. with the 100-mile riders and continues with staggered departures until 9:30 a.m.

Fresh locally baked pie is featured at the Amish School House. Rest stops include Emmanuel AME Church in Hartly, Harvest Ridge Winery near Marydel, Painted Stave Distillery in Smyrna, and Felton Little League, where riders can refuel with healthy snacks and beverages.

Lunch and beverages are included for all riders and will be provided from various on-site food trucks until 5 p.m. at Legislative Mall.

The after-party will be highlighted with live music from Glass Onion, a DJ, vendors, and other activities.

Bike Delaware volunteers are offering for no additional charge Sunday morning “club rides” for registered riders who want to enjoy a full weekend of cycling, and to explore additional scenic areas of Kent County not typically included during the tour, such as the Monster Mile, Dover’s Air Mobility Command Museum, and an extended visit at Harvest Ridge Winery.

“We welcome riders from all over the mid-Atlantic region to enjoy a truly peaceful and scenic bicycle tour across the western Kent County while rewarding themselves with freshly baked pie,” said Ryan Kennedy, tour coordinator.

“There’s a special bond between returning riders and volunteers, making this event a true labor of love and one of Delaware’s most popular annual events.”

Riders are encouraged to familiarize themselves with Delaware bicycle laws and to read through materials provided prior to riding. Roads will not be closed to traffic.

The tour is the primary fundraiser for the non-profit organization Bike Delaware. Register online at AmishCountryBikeTour.com.
