Talk to address housing for Sussex’s older adults, disabled

Posted

GEORGETOWN — In most American households, the largest portion of income is devoted to housing and associated upkeep.

But, with home prices on the rise and affordable housing a concern for many, some older adults and those with disabilities may have difficulty finding a residence that is both affordable and sufficient for their needs.

To assist in sharing housing resources with those populations, the Sussex County Advisory Committee on Aging and Adults With Physical Disabilities will host a presentation at its Sept. 18 meeting, bringing together representatives from the Milford Housing Development Corp., the county’s Community Development and Housing Department, and Sussex County Habitat for Humanity.

The 10 a.m. gathering will be held at the County Administrative Office’s West Complex, 22215 N. Dupont Blvd.

The advisory committee is an 11-member panel established by County Council to advocate for older and disabled residents by increasing dialogue, making recommendations to county officials and giving support to its target citizens. It meets every January, March, May, July, September and November, and meetings are open to the public.
