Police: Two arrests made after gunshot following Dover High football game

No injuries occur as investigation into incident continues

Two arrests were made after a gunshot following a football game at Dover High in Dover Friday night, authorities said.

According to Dover Police spokesperson Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid, no injuries occured after the gunshot at 8:59 p.m.

The gunshot occurred in the midst of a large fight after the Senators game against Smyrna, Cpl. Schmid said.

In a news release, police said the fight began at the entrance to the football stadium and officers were on scene assisting with security.

Police alleged in the release that responding officers saw Kameron Scott 27, of Dover, fire a handgun once into the air

According to the release, officers attempted to take Mr. Scott into custody, however he ran to a nearby apartment complex and was taken into custody after a foot chase.

The release said Tony Benson Jr., 20, of Dover, who was involved in the fight, also ran toward the apartment complex and was taken into custody after a foot chase.

Patrol officers located a Taurus .38 special handgun in the area where Mr. Scott ran from officers, according to the release.

Mr. Scott and Mr. Benson were transported to the Dover Police Department where they were processed and arraigned, police said.

Mr. Scott was charged with possession offenses including firearm during the commission of a felony, firearm by a person prohibited and firearm in a school zone, along with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, riot, second-degree conspiracy, and resisting arrest. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $55,000 cash bail.

Mr. Benson was charged with riot, second-degree conspiracy, and resisting arrest. He was released on his own recognizance.
