LONG NECK – Numerous wagers were made, and crustacean power took center-stage Saturday at the 19th Annual Crab Race, an early July tradition staged by the Sons of Amvets Post 2 with support from the Dave Dolby Post 2 family.

Sometimes a bit feisty, blue crabs journeyed from the starting gate down the waterfall chute, much to the delight of the large crowd that attended the family-friendly event, which included a children’s area, grilled food, plenty of drink options and other fundraising activities.

This event is the largest annual fundraiser for the Sons of Amvets Post 2, whose various programs support the community, Post 2 and veterans.

Betters shelled out $2 for each numbered crab. There were eight total races, with upward of 10 crabs per race.

The payout to winners is like a 50/50.
