SMYRNA — A 26-year-old Smyrna woman died Saturday after being struck by three vehicles after walking into South Dupont Boulevard at approximately 7:30 p.m., Delaware State Police said.
Authorities said the female was initially struck by a Delaware State Police Chevrolet Tahoe she walked in front of, then two more vehicles.
Police said the woman was not carrying a flashlight nor crossing at a designated crossing area. She was pronounced dead at the scene and police said her identity is being withheld until her family is notifiied.
The trooper was transported to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The drivers of the two other vehicles were not injured, police said.
The northbound lanes of South Dupont Boulevard remained closed for approximately 3.5 hours as investigators examined the scene and cleared the roadway.
The Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident.
