HOPEWELL — Summer Sunday services start the first Sunday in June at historic Olde St. Peter’s Church located at the corner of St. Peter’s Church and Thomas Long roads.

Part of the leisure ministry of Immanuel United Methodist Church, there is special music by local talent every Sunday with the worship service led by the Rev. Jim Riley with Pam Eskridge at the organ.

Services get underway at 8 a.m. Featured in June are Steve Flaherty on June 2; Charles and Linda Laird on June 9; Sandy Whipps on June 16; Denise Walters on June 23 and Maria Maroon on June 30.

The congregation at St. Peter’s organized in 1782 and two years later met at the Miles Meeting House, renamed St. Peter’s in 1813. That structure was replaced in 1817 with the third church dating to 1850.

More modifications were made in 1901 to how it appears today. It merged with Immanuel in 1965.
