New Castle County IT department receives third-overall national ranking

Posted

The New Castle County Information Systems department earned the third-highest national ranking among counties in the same population category in the 20th annual Digital Counties Survey.

Conducted by the Center for Digital Government in partnership with the National Association of Counties, the survey examines technology strategies and programs, awarding top counties for practices that enable more efficient and responsive government.

The third-place ranking was awarded for key accomplishments, such as modernizing the county website with artificial intelligence-powered tools to improve accessibility; implementing an e-payment cloud with mobile and digital options; enabling self-service channels to check the status of projects and permits; and using strategies for managing American Rescue Plan Act funding by developing digital grant application channels to ensure federal requirements.

Another accomplishment recognized was executing an ARPA-funded initiative to expand broadband infrastructure in targeted areas.

County Executive Matt Meyer received the award at the annual National Association of Counties Conference in Texas on July 21. With the honor, New Castle County has been a top 10 survey winner for the past four years.

“I’m extremely proud of the entire IS staff for all that they do to keep our systems and data secure,” Mr. Meyer said. “We emerged from the pandemic with a modernized technology environment, enabling county government to respond efficiently to improve the quality of life for residents and businesses.”
