GEORGETOWN — Friday’s national observance of Vietnam War Veterans Day includes a ceremonial event sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans of America Sussex County Chapter 1105.

The ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. at The Village of College Park, off College Park Drive in Georgetown.

Chapter vice president George Stone will serve as master of ceremonies.

American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro will assist with the presentation of colors and there will education on the proper folding of the American flag.

During the ceremony, the names of the Sussex County fallen enshrined on the Sussex County Vietnam War monument will be read. That monument, previously next to the Sussex County Administration Building on The Circle, is now at the Village of College Park.

At the event, VVA Chapter 1105 will describe outreach activities to help alert veterans of their eligible benefits.

“I’m going to give an update on the status of the outreach and what is going on with benefits in Delaware,” said U.S. Army Vietnam veteran Patrick Moonan, president of Chapter 1005.

Refreshments will be served.

The ceremony is open to the public. For additional information, contact George Stone at stonege14@gmail.com, or Patrick Moonan at paxmoonan67@gmail.com.

Signed into law in 2017 through the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act, this national holiday, always held on March 29, honors Vietnam War veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice.

Once on College Park Drive, attendees should proceed to the circle and take the first right and proceed to Cpl. Vaughn O’Neil Hall Road. The ceremony will be on the left.
