MONEY MATCH returns over $570,000 to Delaware taxpayers

DOVER — The state’s annual MONEY MATCH Program automatically returns lost money to taxpayers without the usual need to file a claim or gather paperwork, and this week, approximately 4,700 checks for over $570,000 will be sent to Delawareans, said state escheator Brenda R. Mayrack on Tuesday.

MONEY MATCH matches an unclaimed-property database with verified addresses and taxpayer information, so lost money can be returned automatically. In many cases, individuals might not be aware they were missing unclaimed property until the check arrives in the mail.

This is the fourth time Delaware has conducted the effort, which occurs annually each September. The program has returned over $5 million to more than 35,000 taxpayers.

While MONEY MATCH automatically reunites taxpayers with unclaimed property, not all types of property are included. Delawareans are encouraged to search for unclaimed parcels held by the state at unclaimedproperty.delaware.gov. Visit missingmoney.com to search other states.
