FARMINGTON — A 33-year-old Milton woman died when struck by a vehicle while standing on South Dupont Highway Thursday, Delaware State Police said.
Police said that at approximately 6:47 p.m., an unknown vehicle was traveling northbound on the highway south of Main Street. A female was standing in the middle of the northbound lane of the highwaywhen she was struck by the unknown vehicle. The unknown vehicle did not stop, and the driver fled from the scene.
Police said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name is being withheld until her family and relatives are notified.
Police said the northbound lanes of South Dupont Highway were closed for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated, and the roadway was cleared.
The Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this collision to contact Cpl/3 J. Lane by calling 302-698-8457.
