Milford pedestrian fatally struck by vehicle

MILFORD — A 49-year-old Milford man died Sunday after being struck by a vehicle while walking across Bay Road, Delaware State Police spokesperson Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto said.

Steven Shehorn was wearing dark clothing, not carrying a light, and not using a crosswalk when struck by the vehicle approaching Williamsburg Drive at approximately 6:29 p.m. The vehicle driver attempted to brake and swerve to avoid striking the pedestrian but was unable to.

Mr. Shehorn sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The vehicle driver and a passenger were not injured. A second passenger was transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

No other vehicles were involved in this collision. Bay Road was closed for approximately three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

The Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this collision to contact Master Cpl. J. Lane by calling 302-698-8457.
