MILFORD -- Residents can expect to see a 2.4% increase in their electric rates beginning in June 2024.

The Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation will be increasing the Power Cost Adjustment (PCA) by $0.00353 per kilowatt-hour (kWh). This will raise the PCA to $0.02477 per kWh. 

The increase is a result of the market-driven capacity cost increases impacting all electric users  on the Delmarva Pennisula. 

The 2.4 percent increase will be for the average residental and small business accounts in Milford.  The commerical account will see about to 2.3 to 3 percent increase depending on the demand, load factor, seasonality and time of use.

Even with the increase in rates, Milford remains one of the lowest electric rates in the state. The rates are comparable to the ones about six years ago for Milford.

The City encourages the residents to utilize Efficiency Smart for rebates and an electric usage montior, insulating windows, purchase a water heater jacket, utilizing the city's budget plan and servicing their HVAC system.  Reducing household energy use by 6 kWh per day can offset the cumulative effect of wholesale power costs passed through since 2020.
