Maryland man charged with DUI, weapons and drug offenses after traffic stop in Dover

DOVER — A 37-year-old Fruitland, Maryland man was arrested on DUI, weapons and drug offenses following a traffic stop on Thursday, police said.

At around noon, a Delaware State Police trooper patrolling U.S. 13 and South Governors Avenue stopped a car after it swerved over the lane line and changed lanes without signaling, authorities said.

Police said the trooper observed signs of impairment in the driver, Yusuf Dixon, during the traffic stop. The man was arrested after field sobriety tests.

Police said the trooper searched the car and found suspected crack cocaine and PCP in addition to a handgun with an obliterated serial number. Mr. Dixon is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms, police added.

Mr. Dixon was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony; possession of a firearm by a person prohibited; possession of a weapon with a removed, obliterated or altered serial number; carrying a concealed firearm; possession of a firearm while under the influence; possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity; possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 2 quantity; possession of drug paraphernalia; driving the vehicle under the influence; and traffic offenses.

Mr. Dixon was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $157,000 cash bond.
