CAMBRIDGE – Deputy State Fire Marshals have arrested a 31-year-old Cambridge man for arson and numerous other charges stemming from an arson fire on Sept. 23 at 406 Muir St.

An origin and cause examination of the fire scene determined the fire to be a result of arson, a statement from the Office of the State Fire Marshal said on Dec. 27. A three-month-long criminal investigation conducted by Deputy State Fire Marshals identified the suspect.

The man was located in Cambridge by deputy state fire marshals and the Cambridge Police Department, where he was taken into custody without incident.

Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged Roberto O’Donald Gross with Arson 1st and 2nd Degree, Malicious Burning 1st and 2nd Degree, Home Invasion, Burglary 3rd and 4th Degree and two counts of attempted manufacture of a destructive device.

Gross was transported to the Dorchester County Detention Center after seeing a Court Commissioner where he is being held without bond.  If found guilty of all charges, Gross faces a maximum penalty of 144 years and 6 months of incarceration and/or $145,500 in fines.
