Long-term care task force to meet Sept. 8

DOVER—The Long-Term Care and Memory Care Task Force will hold its second meeting of the year on Thursday.

The task force, which last met on Aug. 9, will meet virtually at 12 p.m. on Thursday to continue discussions regarding the needs of Delawareans in long-term care facilities.

Aside from opening remarks and the approval of the task force’s prior meeting minutes, the agenda for Thursday includes presentations from Michelle Pedicone, Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley chapter Executive Director Katie Macklin, and public and closing comments.

The task force was established in the final days of the legislative session during the 151st General Assembly and was implemented to study and make recommendations for addressing the needs of residents in nursing facilities, intermediate care facilities for residents with disabilities, assisted living facilities, and memory care units within each of these facilities.

Members of the Long-Term Care and Memory Care Task Force include the presidents of the Delaware Healthcare Association and Delaware Health Care Facilities Association, and the directors of Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities, Division of Health Care Quality, Division of Medicaid and Medical Assistance, State Council for Persons with Disabilities, and AARP Delaware.

Additionally, legislators appointed to the committee include Committee Co-Chair Rep. Larry Mitchell, D-Elsmere, Co-Chair Sen. Spiros Mantzavinos, D-Elsmere, Rep. Ruth Briggs King, R-Georgetown, and Sen. Colin Bonini, R-Dover.
