Two die in Little Creek house fire

LITTLE CREEK — A child and woman have died and three others were injured in a residential fire on Main Street Sunday.

The blaze, reported shortly at 12:12 p.m. occurred in the 300 block of Main Street. Little Creek Fire Chief Michael Scott Bundek said that the fire was under control by 1:20 p.m.

The Little Creek Volunteer Fire Company arrived on the scene with flames shooting from the two-story home and several occupants trapped inside, according to a news release.

When firefighters arrived, one victim was outside of the structure. She had jumped from the second floor window, Chief Bundek said.

Firefighters performed multiple rescues. Five victims were transported to Bayhealth Hospital - Kent Campus in Dover, Delaware. All sustained smoke inhalation and burns.

A nine-year-old female and 42-year-old woman died at the hospital.

Three other victims remain in critical condition. Two of those victims are expected to be transferred to the Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pennsylvania.

State fire investigators, along with the Delaware State Police and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives are working on the investigation into this fire. The investigation is ongoing and active at this time.

Heavy fire damage was estimated at $100,000. This fire remains under investigation.

Dover, Leipsic, Magnolia, Camden-Wyoming and Dover Air Force Base fire departments responded to the blaze. Kent County Paramedics, Saint Francis Emergency Medical Services and the Delaware State Police aviation section were also at the scene.

Chief Bundek said that approximately 70 firefighters from all of the agencies were on site to battle the fire.
