Letter to the Editor: What’s the solution to all these mail issues?

Posted

I recently had to move. I finally found an apartment, but my move-in date was six weeks away. I put everything in storage, moved in with a relative for six weeks and made several trips to the Dover Post Office during that time to pick up my held mail.

All was good — hectic, but livable until my six weeks were up, and I moved into my apartment two weeks ago (I filled out all proper cards for holding mail and for forwarding mail, including proper dates, etc.).

The day I moved in, I went to the post office to get my mail (the only mail there was for the people who moved out and went “I don’t know where,” so I gave it all back to the post office). Every time I went, I stood in line for 15 to 30 minutes to get waited on because there were only sometimes one, sometimes two and sometimes three people working.

I have been in my apartment now two full weeks and have not received one piece of mail for myself or my grandson, who also lives here. Now mind you, I have always gotten five to 15 pieces of mail a day for years. Lots of junk mail but also a lot of important mail. The post office does not know where my mail is. It’s no longer in the hold box. I’ve been there three times. It could be in the locked mailbox at the apartment complex, but no one knows where the keys are to the lockbox, which I should have received two weeks ago.

I don’t know what to do, charge the post office for the late fees on my late bills? I don’t think that would be acceptable. Suggestions are appreciated.
