Letter to the Editor: Ørsted wind farm would be a step in the right direction

Posted

The article regarding Ørsted’s plans to build an offshore wind farm along the Delaware-Maryland coast was a fascinating read (“Questions swirl on wind farm proposal,” July 21). As a recent purchaser of solar energy for my home, I fully understand the value of alternative energy sources, and I am hoping that more of those choices are made available to the good people of Delaware.

The article sounded as if really great plans are on track for Maryland, and some type of planning is in the works for Delaware. It is genuinely hoped that Ørsted not only actively and aggressively seeks economic opportunities for businesses in Delaware but that it also uses the same level of commitment to identify a viable interconnection for the wind farm that will benefit the residents of our state by providing another green energy option.

It is very understandable that the residents of Fenwick Island had concerns with the location of the initial proposed project, but the impacts of climate change must be addressed, and the offshore wind farm is a huge step in the right direction. It can be compared to the benefit that putting a price on carbon promises to be, a step that our nation’s leaders are seriously considering.
