First, let’s deal with the assertion of our “puppet president” mentioned in a recent letter (“Democrats are killing the USA,” April 6). You know, the current president is the one who finally got the pandemic on the run, not with false statements and phony cures but with organization and science.
Next, I question the statement of Black Lives Matter being much more dangerous than the organized, well-armed groups who laid siege to the U.S. Capitol. And how dare BLM demand our education system teach the whole of our history, both good and bad? And I didn’t know that fair treatment for all under the law was Marxist.
Speaking out against what someone believes to be an injustice to them and others of similar skin tone is not hiding behind color. It’s exercising First Amendment rights. You remember, the rights people swear to defend during induction into the military.
Next up, the $1.9 trillion rescue plan and the multi-trillion-dollar infrastructure bill. The allegation was no money in the coffers to pay for it — “it” being help for Americans and American small businesses to recover from a pandemic-ravished economy. But l guess it was all just bad timing because the previous administration’s huge tax cut that Big Business got was just about to kick in and trickle down to the masses — and start paying down the debt too? Come on, if you believe that, I have a bridge in Brooklyn, and I can let you have it real cheap.
Lastly, one-party rule only seems to be a problem when it’s not your party. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., says that in two years, when Republicans regain the House and Senate, all will be right in the world once again, so hold your water. We are not going to become a communist bloc country, just as long as everyone gets to vote. Oops, there goes that BLM propaganda again.
