I am also encouraged with your stance on wind energy for Delaware and the use of “vehicle miles” as an eventual replacement for the gas tax, as we transition to electric vehicles. I am concerned that President Joe Biden seems more interested in implementing green electrical standards, instead of an approach to emissions reduction that puts a price on carbon.
As a volunteer with Citizens’ Climate Lobby, I desire to help economically disadvantaged communities by putting a fee on carbon producers that is returned to families. A good example of this is House Resolution 2307, where the fee would increase every year but is not a tax because the money is returned to the people to help with the increased cost of gasoline, electricity and home heating.
This economic model has passed a number of simulation tests by economists, showing it is the best way to cut emissions, while at the same time causing the least disruption to citizens on Main Street. I hope you can encourage Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., to guide a similar bill through the Senate, continuing Delaware’s national leadership in solving our problems with global warming.
