It was good to read Sunday’s Commentary by Drs. Devona Williams and Tony Allen regarding Delaware State University’s acquisition of Wesley College (“The Power of WE!: Wesley College joining Delaware State University,” April 18).
As a resident of downtown Dover and an active volunteer with Restoring Central Dover/National Council on Agricultural Life and Labor Research Fund (NCALL), I look forward to an increased presence of DSU in the city. As a retired instructor and administrator at Wesley College — as well as an across-the-street neighbor — I would also like to take this moment to recognize and thank the entire Wesley College community for its remarkable contributions to our city and our state. Enter any public school, any health facility or any local restaurant or business, and you will find Wesley graduates returning in full measure what they gained from their college experiences. And behind every graduate, you will find a host of dedicated faculty members, coaches, administrators, custodians, grounds and maintenance crews, security personnel and more, whose expertise, concern and personal touch launched these graduates.
As great things await with DSU, great things should be remembered and celebrated about Wesley College.
