WILMINGTON—The League of Women Voters of Delaware announced it is offering the nonpartisan election resource VOTE411.org ahead of the May 9 school board elections.

VOTE411 provides personalized candidate information, voter registration details, polling place locations and other election information.

The League of Women Voters of Delaware hopes VOTE411 will help reverse the historically poor turnout at school board elections, which typically bring out only ten percent of eligible voters.

"School boards not only shape and monitor education policies, but their decisions influence property taxes, home values, and government budgets, as well as address racial equity issues. During the COVID pandemic, school boards played an important role in addressing school safety issues,” said Jill Itzkowitz, chair of the league’s voting and election initiatives.

The website will help voters navigate these races, which include thirty-two candidates across eleven school districts.

Voters can see side-by-side comparisons of candidates’ biographies, visions for the future and their positions on critical topics facing education today, including providing support for student mental health issues, community calls for removing books and programs and attracting and retaining quality teachers.

“These are issues that can have a profound impact on our system of education,” Ms. Itzkowitz said. “Everyone has a stake in this election because the future of democracy depends on how we educate our children and their children. It is crucial that voters in Delaware make their voices heard in this election and make an informed vote on election day.”
