SEAFORD — A 39-year-old Laurel man died from injuries suffered Saturday in a vehicle crash, Delaware State Police spokesman Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell said.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:37 p.m., police said, when Gary Workman Jr. was driving a Dodge Dakota on U.S. 13, south of Del. 18. For unknown reasons, the vehicle swerved onto the shoulder before exiting, traveling through a steep ditch and striking the support of a large sign, Cpl. Hatchell said.

Mr. Workman, who police said was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The southbound lanes of Sussex Highway, south of Cannon Road, were shut down for approximately four hours, while the crash was investigated, and the road was cleared.

The Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate and asks witnesses to contact Senior Cpl. J. Smith at 302-703-3267, send a message via the state police Facebook page or call Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-847-3333.
