Lakey: Are our constitutional rights for sale?

Posted

There is definitely a threat to democracy in the U.S. today, but it is not from whom half of us seem to think. The Democrats' new bill requiring a permit to purchase a firearm, about to be signed by our governor, now makes our constitutional rights — afforded us by the U.S. Constitution and the more explicit Delaware Constitution — available to Delaware citizens if they pay for them.

For a taxpayer cost of millions and the individual cost of fees to the state and others — and if they like you — you can purchase your rights (supposedly guaranteed by both constitutions) to purchase a firearm and to protect your home and yourself, if you have to travel to Dover and Wilmington, where most gun crime seems to occur.

Now, who is the threat to democracy?

Stan Lakey
