Kent County Levy Court presents state police with $100,000 check

DOVER — Kent County Levy Court commissioners presented a $100,000 check to the Delaware State Police at its meeting Tuesday.

DSP Capt. Rodney Layfield accepted the check on behalf of the agency.

Levy Court voted in June to allot $300,000 in law enforcement grants to the state police and 12 municipal police agencies, with a base amount plus additional funds per uniformed officer, to show appreciation.

Upon receiving the check from Levy Court President Terry Pepper, Capt. Layfield said, “On behalf of the men and women of the Delaware State Police throughout the state, but specifically those who will be working in Kent County to utilize this money, we want to thank you.

“We are very appreciative. We weren’t expecting this … and really, really, really appreciate it. Thank you kindly.”

Commissioner Pepper said he hopes the additional funding will come in handy for the state police.

“The grant funding is intended to be used in Kent County and can be used for initiatives, equipment or whatever,” he said. “We only ask that you send a letter to let us know what you did with the money.”
