Carney announces Delaware Superior Court nominations

Posted

Gov. John Carney announced the nomination of Sean P. Lugg to serve as a Superior Court judge in New Castle County last week.

If confirmed, Mr. Lugg will take the seat formerly held by Superior Court Judge William C. Carpenter Jr.

“Sean is well respected in and out of the courtroom, and has the experience and judgment necessary to serve on the Superior Court,” Gov. Carney said. “I know he will serve Delaware well. I look forward to the Senate considering his nomination.”

Mr. Lugg has served with the Delaware Department of Justice since 1996 and is the chief of appeals in the Criminal Division. He previously worked as a state prosecutor, ultimately heading the Criminal Division.

He began his career serving as the state’s first traffic safety resource prosecutor. He also has experience in the department’s Fraud and Civil divisions.

Gov. Carney also nominated Commissioner Janine M. Salomone for reappointment as a Superior Court commissioner in New Castle County. She was first confirmed by the Senate in January 2019.

The nominations will be submitted to the Senate for consideration.
