Giant backhoes tearing down the East Wing of the White House. The sound of screeching truck tires and windows breaking, as Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents storm into startled cities — most recently, Charlotte, North Carolina. The roaring engines of misguided planes dropping bombs on Venezuelan boats. The noise is deafening.
We need to seek quiet. We need to say, “Shh.” We need to seek quiet to hear their little voices, the voices of our children. Their little voices are trying to be heard. They are yearning for our government’s help. They are trying to tell us that gun violence is the leading cause of death for American children. They need our protection, not ballrooms.
