GEORGETOWN — A big event is back, this time with fundraising twists of a car show and silent auction.

In recognition of Law Enforcement Memorial Month, Georgetown’s Circle will be the venue May 26 at 6 p.m. for the Law Enforcement Appreciation Rally.

Hosted by Sen. Brian Pettyjohn, R-Georgetown, it will “honor and show appreciation for Delaware’s law enforcement community.”

A schedule of speakers comprised of elected officials and representatives from various police agencies throughout Sussex County is being assembled by Sen. Pettyjohn.

Further, a car show featuring antique vehicles is being planned by the County Seat Cruisers, who will also hold a silent auction. The Cruisers’ events will run from 5-9 p.m.

While space for cars is somewhat limited on The Circle, County Seat Cruisers’ Levin Clark said all signs point to a good turnout.

“It’s looking pretty big right now,” he said.

There is no entry charge for the car show, but donations are welcome. Additionally, the club has pledged $2,000 in support of local and state law enforcement, Mr. Clark said.

At least seven car show trophies will be awarded. One trophy is in memory of Keith Heacook, a Delmar police officer who died in the line of duty in April 2021, and another to remember Georgetown Officer Chad Spicer, who was killed on duty Sept. 1, 2009.

The silent auction will include donations from businesses, while a vendor will be selling police flags and related merchandise.
