Georgetown police alert public to impersonation scam

GEORGETOWN — The Georgetown Police Department said the agency has received reports of individuals posing as town officers to obtain financial information and to solicit money.

“We want to emphasize that no member of the Georgetown Police Department will ever ask for any financial information or request monetary compensation for any reason,” the department announced on social media. “We urge everyone to be cautious and refrain from sending money to anyone claiming to be affiliated with our agency.”

Anyone who has been a victim of this scam is asked to contact police immediately.

“We take these matters very seriously and are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our community,” the post also states.
