Frankford man arrested on drug, gun charges

FRANKFORD — Delaware State Police arrested a 43-year-old Frankford man Friday on drug dealing and gun charges after concluding a narcotics investigation.

Delaware State Police spokesman Leonard DeMalto said that several weeks ago, detectives from the Sussex County Drug Unit began investigating Billy Mumford, who was suspected of dealing drugs throughout Sussex County.

On Friday at approximately noon, detectives from the Sussex County Drug Unit and Sussex County Governor’s Task Force responded to the 30000 block of Pepper Trail in Frankford to execute a search warrant on Mr. Mumford’s residence. Detectives found him in Selbyville shortly beforehand, and he was taken into custody without incident. A search of Mr. Mumford and his home allegedly led to the discovery of approximately 36.86 grams of cocaine; approximately 17.95 grams of crack cocaine; approximately 39.67 grams of marijuana; a loaded handgun with additional ammunition; various items of drug paraphernalia; and over $16,000 in suspected drug dealing proceeds.

Mr. Mumford is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms and/or ammunition.

He was taken to Troop 4 and charged with possession of a Firearm during the commission of a felony; possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity; possession of a firearm by a person prohibited; possession of ammunition by a person prohibited; possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 2 quantity; two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $123,000 cash bond.
