Firearms charges result from Dover traffic stop

DOVER - Gregory Scott, 23, of Dover, was arrested on firearms charges after a traffic stop at approximately 10:17 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.

Mr. Scott was driving when stopped in the 400 block of N. DuPont Highway as the result of a firearms investigation, Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said. Police said officers approached Mr. Scott, who fled on foot before being apprehended quickly without incident.

According to Sgt. Hoffman, officers found Mr. Scott to be in possession of a 9mm handgun with an extended magazine (30 rounds). The gun had an obliterated serial number and was altered to make it fully automatic, police said.

Mr. Scott has charged with possession of a firearm/ammunition by person prohibited (two counts), possession of firearm with obliterated serial number, carry concealed deadly weapon, tampering with physical evidence, resisting arrest, and possession of a destructive weapon. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $34,400 cash bond.
