Felony DUI, narcotics arrest made in Laurel

LAUREL - Robert Lecates, 38, of Laurel, was arrested for felony DUI and narcotics offenses following an investigation Tuesday morning, Delaware State Police said.

According to spokesperson Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto, Mr. Lecates was found unconscious in the driver’s seat of a vehicle at the Oasis Travel Plaza at approximately 12:04 a.m. The vehicle had reportedly been idling for about 45 minutes at a gas pump with no person seen exiting or entering it.

Troopers arrived to find Mr. Lecates showing signs of impairment, Cpl. DeMalto said, and he was taken into custody without incident.

A vehicle search led to the discovery of approximately 0.686 grams of suspected heroin, approximately 3.87 grams of methamphetamine, approximately 1.7 grams of MDMA, approximately 0.61 grams of an unknown white powdery substance, and drug paraphernalia, police said.

Mr. Lecates was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (four counts), third-offense driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while suspended/revoked. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $22,750 secured bond.
