Faye Spartz, 87

Posted

Faye was born in San Francisco on October 12, 1939 to C. Allen and Mary G. Fountain. She passed into her eternal glory in Dover on October 19, 2026.
Faye is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, James Spartz; by four children, Wendy (Eddie) Wyatt, Martin (Barbara) Spartz, Cheryl (Blair) Carmean, and Bruce (Susan) Spartz; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy (Cameron) Hinke; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Zigrid Fountain.
She was a proud graduate of Presentation High School and of San Francisco City College.
Following in her father’s footsteps, Faye was truly a people person. She always greeted everyone she met with kind and friendly words and an infectious smile. Faye routinely encouraged people to “get along and be happy.” She perceived and quietly answered the needs of many members in the community. Likewise, she was especially appreciative of anything others did for her, including the care given her during her illness. Faye’s personality was aptly described by one of her granddaughters who said “I have amazing memories of her beautiful kindness, love, joy, faith she created with everyone over the years.”
Faye’s personality and desire to “work together” lead her to a life-long career in customer service banking. She worked in five different banks in four states and finished her career as manager of The First National Bank of Wyoming Branch Office at the corner of College and McKee Roads in Dover.
Faye was a devout Catholic and devoted member of Holy Cross Parish in Dover for 63 years. She served the Church as a member of the Liturgy Committee; was a lector, Eucharistic Minister and CCD teacher in the parish.
As a resident of Camden for 62 years, Faye was a deeply involved volunteer in the local community. She served for ten years as a member of the Caesar Rodney School District Board of Education. She was a member of the Colonial Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. She was also a member of Church Women United and volunteered with several other organizations. Finally, Faye loved to talk about the experiences she had while teaching an evening course for adults returning to the workforce that she taught for a few years at Polytech High School.
A viewing will be held from 6-8pm, Monday evening, October 26, 2026 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover, DE 19901. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10AM, Tuesday, October 27, 2026 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State Street, Dover, DE.
Interment will be in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to one of Faye’s favorite charities: Sisters of the Presentation, 3145 Geary Blvd, Box 619, San Francisco, CA 94118.
