Information session for parents about their high school student earning college credit through dual enrollment

Posted

WESTOVER — If your child will be a junior or senior this fall and attends Somerset County Public Schools an information session on how they can earn college credit while still in high school is being offered 6 p.m. Monday, April 15 at Somerset County Technical High School.

Tuition and textbook expenses for dual enrollment courses are paid for by SCPS when eligible students take the class either in high school or on campus.

“We are one of the few, maybe the only county, that basically pays dual enrollment for everybody,” said Deputy Superintendent of Schools Tom Davis. “There is a goal that we not only have students graduating with a high school diploma but they would also be graduating with an associate degree.”

The Guidance Departments of Crisfield and Washington High Schools are hosts for the Dual Enrollment Information Session and representatives from Wor-Wic Community College, Salisbury University, and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore will be in attendance.

Policy 500-39 titled “Dual Enrollment Students” is currently up for review by the Somerset County Board of Education and can be referenced for more details.
