CAMBRIDGE — A new doctor has arrived to practice in Cambridge with Dr. Mahmood Shariff. Actually, the new doctor, Dr. Ira Kurz, is really an old hand, not a new doctor at all. He had his own solo practice in Internal Medicine in Rutherford, N.J., for many years. Rutherford is a small bedroom community of New York, and only 13 miles from the city.

Looking for a slower lifestyle and a proximity to lots of water, Dr. Kurz chose to move to the Eastern Shore for several reasons. First of all, he liked the philosophy of Dr. Shariff’s practice, where care is never hurried and the doctor develops a relationship with patients. He also admired the semi-rural surroundings of the Eastern Shore, which would provide him with crabs, oysters and rockfish. Because he is a serious sailor, easy access to rivers and the bay was a major factor.

The transition to a new practice and a very different environment has been easy, says the doctor. His wife, also in the medical field with a job as administrator of nursing homes, is already employed in Maryland. Dr. Kurz says “I am learning to appreciate the style and routines here while enjoying explorations of Cambridge’s attractions. I found the port area and the marina scenic, and I spent significant time enjoying it. I am also delighted with The Bistro,” says the doctor, who will have many places to sample as he gets to know us.

Dr. Kurz is looking for new patients. He offers lengthy experience in Internal Medicine, a mastery of several languages, and a welcoming smile.
