DOVER — North State Street will reopen at 9 a.m. Friday following the completion of a nearly 10-month water main project.

More than a half-mile of pipe has been replaced underneath North State Street, as the project included incremental stints of construction from Division Street to Pennsylvania Avenue.

The project, contracted by A-Del Construction, of Newark, replaced outdated and undersized cast-iron water main pipes with DR 18 PVC pipe. For months, work occurred from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., leading to detours for motorists in the downtown Dover area.

Renovation efforts to North State Street’s water main were a part of the city’s master water plan, which includes replacing older pipes throughout the city and removing weathered cast iron pipes to eliminate brown water that fermented the city’s previously existing pipes.

The city of Dover confirmed the reopening of North State Street to the Delaware State News Thursday afternoon.

The city of Dover’s Department of Water and Wastewater can be reached at 302-736-7029.
