Dover man charged with drug, firearm offenses

DOVER — A 35-year-old Dover man was charged with drug and firearm counts following a traffic stop Tuesday.

Dover Police Department spokesperson Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said officers were conducting a firearms investigation involving William Caldwell, and he was contacted at approximately 3:35 p.m. in the 500 block of Forest Street. Mr. Caldwell resisted arrest and struggled with officers, the corporal said.

One officer sustained a head injury during the altercation but was treated and released at Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus in Dover, authorities said.

Mr. Caldwell was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited (two counts), possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, resisting arrest with force, second-degree assault of a law enforcement officer and possession of a controlled substance. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on $106,250 cash bail.
