DOVER – The Elks Lodge 1903 hosted the City of Dover Parks and Recreation Department, along with a few local residents, to its annual Bicycle Safety Day at 200 S. Saulsbury Rd. on Monday.
With assistance from John Fiori, bicycle coordinator for the Delaware Department of Transportation’s Planning Division, a total of 82 children were given bicycle safety lessons.
Following those, they got a chance to ride on a bicycle rodeo course composed of simulated obstacles they could find while out cycling.
With a grant from the Elks National Foundation, the Elks provided 26 bicycles and lunch to all participants. DELDOT complimented the bicycle giveaway with a helmet and set of lights for each bicycle.
The Elks said they are committed to providing the community with rewarding opportunities such as this youth activity as part of their mission. PHOTOS SUBMITTED BY DOVER’S PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
