DOVER — The 91st Dover Days celebration will be held May 4 beginning at 9 a.m. with a parade.

The Milford Community Band will hold a concert May 3 at 7 p.m. to kick off the celebration. Brothers Pyro, Inc. will set off fireworks at dusk.

The parade begins at Pennsylvania Avenue and continues down State Street. The stage and reviewing stand will be in front of PNC Bank on the corner of State and Loockerman streets. Reviewing stand guests will include Dover’s mayor, local celebrities and Dover Air Force Base wing commanders, all in colonial period clothing.

Historical reenactors will march in the parade and later present on stage while another four roam the festival and interact with individuals and groups. They will wear the identification of the historic heroes they represent.

Displays include The Wheelmen-Historical Big Wheel bikes, woodworking and colonial trapper demonstrations, Dover Area World War II historical heroes, Diamond State Lacemaker Artisan Crafts will make bobbin lace, and Lenape tribe historical demonstrations on Native American culture and lifestyle.

The festival will include over 120 vendors on State Street. Activities include inflatable bounce houses, a tethered hot air balloon, sandcastle building, balloon animal makers, street performers with juggling, balance and crazy antics, water gun fun games and trackless train rides.

Maypole dancing on Dover’s Green by area middle school students will take place after the parade at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The registration deadline to sign- up as a vendor or to be a part of the parade is April 22. For more information, visit doverdays2024.eventbrite.com.
