Dover High scored almost twice as many points as second-place Salesianum — 100 to 57 — as the Senators ran away with the DIAA Indoor Track & Field boys’ team state championship on Saturday at the Prince George’s County Sports Complex in Landover, Md. It was Dover’s fourth state title in the sport overall but its first since 2002. In the girls’ meet, Smyrna settled for second behind team state champion Padua. The Pandas finished with a commanding 192.5 points compared to 74 for the Eagles. Individually for Dover’s boys, Mykele Young-Sanders (7.64 seconds) won the 55-meter hurdles while Khari Bonelli took first in the long jump (21-2.5). Young-Sanders also placed second in the 400 (50.83). Overall, the Senators piled up two firsts, two seconds and six third-place finishes to accumulate most of their team points. Dover earned 15 points in the triple jump by claiming the third, fourth and fifth spots. The Senators’ Jamal Faulkner placed second in the high jump (6-4) and third in the 55 hurdles (7.95). Lake Forest finished in fith place in the boys’ team standings with 38.5 points as John Flamer won the shot put with a throw of 52-feet. On the girls’ side, the only downstate winner was Caesar Rodney’s Jeanette Bendolph, who won the 800 meters in a time of 2:15.62. Smyrna had three second-place finishers: Jameela Buchanan in the 400 meters (1:00.41), Shantell Kargbeh in the high jump (5-0) and Dominique DeMoe in the long jump (17-0). Dover’s Q’Nijah Hudson was runnerup in the shot put (36-0.75). Boys’ basketball Dover 83, Seaford 52: The Senators took control early as they won their third game in a row to improve to 9-7. Jordan Allen and Thomas Hoskins both scored 24 points for Dover. Michael Douglas added 12 while Troy Scott added 10. Allen and Douglas each sank three three-pointers. For the Blue Jays, Jordan Mann netted a team-high 12 points on four three-pointers. Polytech 67, Caesar Rodney 48: The Panthers picked up another Henlopen Conference Northern Division win on Saturday. Newark 59, Woodbridge 51: The Yellowjackets overcame a six-point halftime deficit in posting the nonconference victory. Randy DuPont had a team-high 15 points for the Raiders with Ja’mi Ross adding 14. Conrad 56, Delmarva Christian 19: Conrad jumped out to a 22-3 first-quarter lead in posting the Diamond State Conference win. Girls’ basketball Brandywine 58, Polytech 34: The Bulldogs outscored the Panthers, 24-7, in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. Fatima Edwards had 22 of Polytech’s 34 points, making nine of her team’s 12 field goals, including three three-pointers. College basketball MEN, Christopher Newport 69, Wesley 51: Christopher Newport jumped to an early 9-2 lead never trailed in the Capital Athletic Conference game. Wesley shot just 2-of-27 shooting in the opening half (7.4 percent) as the Captains opened up a 34-15 edge at the intermission. CNU (10-4, 15-6) led by as many as 24 points in the second stanza. Wesley (9-6, 10-11) was led by 14 points from junior Wayne Lennon, all in the second half. Senior Quincy Pettiford posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. WOMEN, Christopher Newport 68, Wesley 41: The Captains turned a four-point halftime edge into a 27-point win, dominating the second half over Wesley College (10-11, 6-8). CNU (9-5, 13-8) allowed just 18 points on 25-percent shooting after halftime. The league’s second-leading scorer and top rebounder, Brionna Johnson (Smyrna), finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals for Wesley. All 41 points were scored through the starters, as Alexus Stroud (Smyrna) posted a game-high 16 points while Roniece Williams (Seaford) added 11 points on 4-5 shooting. College Lacrosse MEN, Delaware 12, Bucknell 11: Tom Holland’s fourth goal of the game, with just 4:09 left, proved to be the game-winner as the Blue Hens finished off a wild comeback. Down 5-0 after the first period and trailing 7-3 at halftime, the Hens (1-1) rallied to tie the game late in the third quarter and then broke the third tie of the game on Holland’s clutch goal in the waning minutes. The Hens then held off Bucknell’s final charge as shots by Sean O’Brien and Sean Doyle in the final 16 seconds were off the mark. Tyler Aunon added two goals while Brian Kormondy added a goal and three assists, Beau Jones scored a goal and added two helpers, and Jackson Finigan added two assists. Senior goalkeeper Brett Anton took over for starter Conor Peaks in the second quarter and posted six saves to earn the win. Matt Olbrich won 13 of 19 faceoffs and also scored a goal for the Hens. Bucknell (0-1), which received votes in the preseason USILA Top 20 poll, had beaten Delaware two years in a row. The Bison outshot the Hens 40-28, including 17-1 in the opening quarter
