CAMBRIDGE — What tops your list of things to do and see in Dorchester County? Is it boating, biking or visiting Blackwater? Spending time at the Hyatt, hunting or the Harriet Tubman Byway? Are ghost walks or growlers from RAR your best bets?

Help the Dorchester Office of Tourism showcase what makes the county a great destination for outdoor enthusiasts, history lovers and foodies alike in their first-ever “How do YOU do Dorchester?” video contest running Feb. 1-March 1.

Videos featuring what people think is best about Dorchester will be uploaded to Dorchester Tourism’s YouTube channel and promoted on Facebook. Prizes valued at $600 will be awarded in two categories: Judge’s Choice and Fan Favorite for the video with the most online votes (likes).

“With endless shoreline, quaint waterfront towns, the Chesapeake’s best seafood and microbrews, Dorchester is a must-visit destination,” said Amanda Fenstermaker, director of Dorchester Tourism. “We wanted to harness the power of first-person insight – and the ease of sharing those recommendations on our extensive digital media platforms – to invite residents, second homeowners and returning visitors to share what they like best.”

Videos should be approximately 15-30 seconds in length and not exceed 65 MB. Acceptable file formats are mov, mp4, mpeg4, and avi. Entries are due by midnight Feb. 17. Complete contest rules and entry form are available at visitdorchester.org.

Public judging begins Feb. 19 and ends Feb. 28. Subscribe to Dorchester’s YouTube channel (youtube.com/channel/UC3Ub8fjqsjczQJSt1RNF14w) to be notified when eligible videos are uploaded and to vote for your favorite. The Heart of Chesapeake Country Heritage Area Board of Directors will select the Judge’s Choice. Winners will be announced March 1.

The Judge’s Choice “Do Dorchester on Us!” prize package is valued at more than $400 and includes gift cards to Blackwater Adventures ($100) and Kay’s at the Airport ($40), a half day tour of the Tubman Byway for two with Tubman Tours ($60), gift basket from Simmon’s Center Market ($50), two tickets to the Taste of Cambridge ($70), dessert from T’s Divine Sweets ($25), and a cruise for two on the skipjack Nathan of Dorchester ($70). The Fan Favorite “Water Moves Us” gift basket is valued at $150 and includes: Eastern Shore Road Trips ($20), Lodge at Black Pearl Cookbook ($50), and tote bag, mug, glasses, journal, pen and post cards.

The contest was inspired by the county’s popular Sunrise/Sunset of the month photo campaigns that have generated hundreds of entries and reached tens of thousands of people on Facebook.
