Bikeways grants

The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced April 29 that it has opened applications for up to $2 million in funding for projects that reinforce safety and improve bicycling infrastructure in communities across the state. The Kim Lamphier Bikeways Grant Program is a competitive program that focuses on building networks of bicycle infrastructure improvements, including better connecting trails and roads, and enhancing last-mile connections to work, school, shopping and transit.

The Bikeways Grant Program supports projects that maximize bicycle access, fill missing links in the state’s bicycle network, and enhance last-mile connections. Established in 2011 through the Maryland Transportation Trust Fund, the Program has funded 234 projects to date, totaling $38.3 million. This grant cycle makes an additional $2 million available for locally initiated projects.

Project eligibility criteria, a map of past projects, the program overview and more information is available on the Kim Lamphier Bikeways Program website. The grant application deadline is May 31 at 5 p.m.
