C-SD’s Young achieves national rank

Cambridge-South Dorchester High School’s Enazajah Young has a place in the national indoor track and field rankings after posting a time of 8.43 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles Jan. 3. Young now occupies 31st place in the United States and is number 5 among all Maryland high schools in the event.

No fishery disaster declaration

The U.S. Department of Commerce last week notified Maryland Governor Wes Moore that it has declined Maryland’s request for a federal commercial fisheries disaster declaration that was sought to help address the economic and ecological damage caused by the spread of invasive catfish and snakeheads in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources hired a dedicated program manager to coordinate strategies across agencies and industries to reduce populations of invasive fish in Maryland. In addition, the DNR is increasing blue catfish research and monitoring programs, and is urging recreational and commercial anglers to increase their harvest of blue catfish and other invasives.

Maryland has no fishing limits on invasive fish, which means anglers can catch and keep any number of them, at any size, during any time of year.
