Armed carjacking

On March 6, at approximately 1:37 p.m., CPD officers responded to the 400 block of Willis Street in reference to an armed carjacking. The victim reported that his vehicle had been stolen at gun point.

The incident occurred in the 500 block of Greenwood Avenue. The victim reported that he had been asked by a friend to pick up a subject and provide a ride to a residence.

The victim picked up one subject on Teal Lane and another subject on Foxtail Drive. The victim was then instructed to give the male subjects a ride to the 500 block of Greenwood Avenue.

After arriving at the 500 block of Greenwood Avenue in the parking lot of the apartment complex, the victim reported that both male subjects were threatening him and that the male suspect in the rear seat pulled out a gun and handed it to the male suspect in the front seat who pointed the gun at the victim threatening to shoot him.

The other male suspect then exited the vehicle and went to the driver’s side of the vehicle assaulting the victim by punching him. After a struggle, the victim fled from the vehicle on foot and ran to Willis Street, where he found a FedEx driver and requested help.

The vehicle is described as a Silver 2016 Ford Focus with Maryland registration 14296CL. The vehicle was last observed on security cameras traveling south on Leonard’s Lane toward Washington Street.

Both suspects were described as African-American males. The first suspect, who was picked up on Teal Lane, was further described as approximately 6 feet tall, short dreadlocks, skinny build, chin hair, appeared to be approximately 18 years of age. The subject was wearing a red sweatshirt with black sweatpants.

The second suspect, who was picked up on Foxtail Drive, was further described as approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, buzzcut style hair, beard, dark skinned. The subject was wearing yellow sweatpants, a black puffy jacket and a yellow T-shirt.

The vehicle had not been located at the time of the report. This is an active investigation, in which the Cambridge Police Department is requesting the assistance of the community.

Contact the Cambridge Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 410-228-3333. All callers can remain anonymous. If the vehicle is observed, do not approach the vehicle and call 911 or your local law enforcement agency.

Juvenile assault

On March 5, deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office, School Resource Unit charged a juvenile offender with assault. An investigation was initiated at Easton High School where it was reported a 15-year-old student assaulted a 73-year-old substitute teacher over the student’s cell phone.

The deputy was able to locate video of the incident which showed the student knock the teacher off a stool onto the floor, stand over him while striking him and making threats to assault him further. After nearly two minutes, another student intervened, bringing the assault to a stop.

The student was charged with assault and disturbing school activities on a juvenile referral. The juvenile was released to a guardian pending further action by the Department of Juvenile Services.

Juvenile assault

On March 8, deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office, School Resource Unit charged a juvenile offender with assault. A 15-year-old student at St. Michaels High School assaulted the school manager in the presence of the school resource officer. As the officer attempted to take the student into custody, the student pulled away and attempted to flee on foot.

The student was quickly taken into custody and charged with assault and resisting arrest on a juvenile referral. The juvenile was released to his mother pending further action by the Department of Juvenile Services.

Criminal summons service

On March 1, at approximately 12:31 p.m., CPD officers served a criminal summons on Laniya Bailey (19 years old from Cambridge). Bailey was charged with assault 2nd degree (three counts).

Charges stem from an incident that occurred Feb. 20 in the 300 block of Shephard Avenue. The victim reported that Bailey had arrived at the location with a group of individuals in an attempt to start a physical altercation. The victim reported they went outside in an attempt to defuse the situation, but the victim was assaulted by Bailey. The victim applied for charges against Bailey with the court commissioner.

Warrant service

On March 3, at approximately 12:20 p.m., CPD officers arrested Tavonte Mijay Ennals (22 years old from Cambridge) on an active Dorchester County Arrest Warrant. Ennals was transported to CPD for processing and his initial appearance. Ennals was later turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on no bond. Ennals was charged with the following:

- Assault 1st Degree

- Assault 2nd Degree

- Reckless Endangerment

- Theft Less Than $100

Charges stem from an incident that occurred on March 2. At approximately 9:58 a.m., CPD officers met with a victim at CPD who was reporting that she had been assaulted. The victim reported that on March 2, at approximately 5 a.m., she was at the Bradford House located in the 700 block of Race Street when she was assaulted by Ennals in the stairwell. The victim reported that Ennals had smacked her and took her cellphone and ran into an apartment. The victim reported that she knocked on the door and Ennals opened the door and punched her in the face multiple times. The victim also reported that prior to the assault in the stairwell, that she and Ennals had been sleeping in bed when Ennals woke up and started assaulting her. The victim reported that Ennals strangled her and pulled her hair, pulling out a “chunk” of hair. Ennals then had the victim in a “headlock” and started to bang her face on the floor several times. The victim also reported that Ennals had bitten her and burned her with a cigarette.

Officers observed signs of injury that were consistent with what had been described. CPD officers applied for charges against Ennals with the court commissioner.

Prostitution

On March 5, members of the Cambridge Police Department conducted an operation to combat prostitution in Cambridge. During the operation, law enforcement officers were working in a covert capacity.

The following subjects have been or will be charged with prostitution, a report from the CPD said:

  • Abner Sergio Vicente Diaz (21 years old from Silver Spring)
  • Marvin Osvaldo Diaz Romero (30 years old from Silver Spring)
  • Steven Lavern Johnson (49 years old from Cambridge)
