On June 19, at approximately 3:25 a.m., Cambridge Police Department officers responded to the 600 block of Greenwood Avenue and to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Cambridge in reference to a possible shooting victim. Upon officers’ arrival at UMSMC, a 19-year-old male victim was located and identified with a single gunshot wound to the left side.
UMSMC administered medical treatment to the victim until he was stable enough to be ground transported to the University of Maryland in Baltimore. Police tracked the incident location to a home in the 900 block of Camelia Street, for which they obtained a search and seizure warrant.
The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office Special Tactics and Response Team executed the search warrant on the residence, where no one was found, though a search revealed evidence related to the shooting.
The victim was reported to be in stable condition. The Cambridge Police Department is asking for the assistance of the community with any information on this incident. Callers can remain anonymous. The Cambridge Police Department was assisted by the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State Police during the initial investigation, attempting to locate the crime scene and providing security at UMSMC.
On June 13, CPD officers responded to Walmart for a theft of a bag and belongings. After viewing footage at the store, officers responded to the suspect’s home.
The woman showed officers where she had discarded the property, which was returned to the owner. Dawn Elizabeth Borgyan, 40, of Cambridge, was issued a criminal citation and released. Borgyan was charged with theft less than $100 value.
On June 17, CPD officers responded to Virginia Avenue and Clifton Street in reference to a hit and run that occurred on Maryland Avenue at Trenton Street. The victim followed the offender’s vehicle to the area of Virginia and Clifton.
Officers contacted both subjects, who were not injured. While officers contacted the offender, they noted that he appeared to be under the influence.
He was also found to not have a license and having a suspended and revoked status. Marin Laron Wilson, 37, of Trappe, was charged with the following:
Driving without a license
Failure to return to scene of accident
Driving under the influence
Driving under the influence per se
Driving while impaired by alcohol
Driving on revoked license
Driving on suspended license
Driving while suspended under certain conditions
(Civil Citation) CDS possession of cannabis less than 1.5 ounces
Wilson was later released on citations to a family/friend.
On June 19, CPD officers met with a 34-year-old Denton man who had an active Dorchester County arrest warrant.
Charges stem from an incident that occurred oMay 18, at approximately 2:10 a.m. The victim reported being assaulted by the suspect, who threatened the victim’s life.
The victim then heard the sound of a gun being loaded. Antwaun Jamar Sewell was charged with the following:
Assault 1st degree
Assault 2nd degree
Reckless endangerment
False imprisonment
Firearm use felony
Handgun on person
Loaded handgun on person
Firearm possession felony conviction
Sewell was turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections.
On June 20, CPD officers met with a 20-year-old Cambridge man. Charges stem from a shoplifting incident that occurred May 31.
The man was observed by Walmart asset protection officers placing merchandise into a bag and then leaving the store passing all points of sale. The total value of items stolen was $104.72.
Edward Spencer was served a criminal summons and released on his signature. Spencer was charged with:
Burglary 4th degree theft
Theft $100 to under $1,500.
On June 20, CPD officers located a 28-year-old Cambridge woman in the 700 block of Rigby Avenue. Walmart asset protection officers had applied for charges against her.
Charges stem from a shoplifting incident that occurred at Walmart on June 18, when the suspect attempted to pay for merchandise when her form of payment was denied multiple times. The suspect then stated to Walmart employees that she was going to a different register when she did not. She left the store without paying for the items, valued at $99.30.
Jasmine Sahara Reed was served a criminal summons and released on her signature. Reed was charged with the following:
Burglary 4th degree theft
Theft less than $100.
On June 20, CPD officers located a 61-year-old Cambridge man in the 500 block of Academy Street who had multiple warrants. Richard Lee Clary was placed under arrest and transported to CPD for processing and his initial appearance.

Vehicle driver giving false fictitious name
Charges stem from an incident with Hurlock Police Department that occurred April 21 during a traffic stop. Clary was later turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on no bond.
On June 21, CPD officers located a 32-year-old Cambridge woman in the 700 block of Cambridge Market Place, who was served a criminal summons and released on her signature.
Charges stem from an incident that occurred June 2 in the 400 block of Skinners Court, when police responded to a residence on Skinners Court for a reported armed robbery.
The suspect informed officers that a male subject had robbed her and pulled a gun on her. The suspect later stated that she was not the victim, that the incident happened to a different person.
Shantere Johnson was charged with:
False statement to officer
Obstructing and hindering.
On June 21, CPD officers served a criminal summons to a 30-year-old Cambridge woman who was released on her signature.
Charges stem from an altercation that occurred June 19 in the 300 block of Cedar Street. The victim reported that Freeman came to her house attempting to fight and assault her.
Nakiza Freeman was charged with attempted assault 2nd degree.
On June 22, CPD officers met with a 29-year-old Cambridge man who had an active Dorchester County District Court Bench Warrant for failure to appear in court March 15 on an original charge of driving without a license. While in processing, the suspect was found to be in possession of a smoking device used for inhaling crack cocaine.
He was also found to have an active criminal summons. James Nathaniel Jones Jr. was served the criminal summons charging him with:
Burglary 4th degree theft
Theft scheme $100 to under $1,500
Theft $100 to under $1,500
Con-theft $100 to under $1,500
Jones was issued a criminal citation for the CDS violation and charged with CDS possession paraphernalia. Jones was released on his personal recognizance on the bench warrant.
In reference to the criminal summons, the charges stem from an incident that occurred May 18, when a victim contacted CPD in reference to a theft of a PlayStation and five games. The victim identified the suspect and stated that the items that were stolen had been pawned. CPD detectives were able to positively identify the suspect as pawning the items.
Deputy State Fire Marshal Helys Valles is the recipient of the 2022 "James C. Robertson, Deputy State Fire Marshal of the Year" award. The award was presented to her during the Maryland State Fireman's Annual Convention and Conference in Ocean City.
Deputy Valles was nominated by her supervisor, Deputy Chief John Nelson, Commander of the Southern Regional Office. Valles was praised for her consistent performance throughout the year.
Deputy Valles began her career with the Office of the State Fire Marshal in September 2020 and is the first female Latino hired in its 58-year history. She was born and raised in Puerto Rico and moved to the United States in 2012. Valles has a master’s degree in forensic sciences and wanted to use her education to determine the origin and cause of fires and explosions.
